What Does A Father Really Want?

T
hinking about Father's Day, I am tempted to write a line of consumer products to recommend; maybe an Apple iPad  or a Nikon D5000. But is this what a father really wants? I went back and tried to remember what my father really wanted.

He wishedFather and Son and daughter
- that we should wake up early to see the sunrise.
- that we should be the first one to forgive.
- that we should take care of each other.
- to hold our hands.
- tell us stories, and we would listen.
- that we should always speak words of kindness to each other.
- that we should always take care of our mother.
- to remember the goodness of other people.
- that we should never think ill of others.
- that we could be all together in Heaven when the last day comes.

In all those things he wished for, I could honestly say that I never heard him wishing something for himself alone. It's always for us, for other people, for our relatives, for my mother.

He was not a politician nor did he hold any public office, but when he died, multitude of people  swarmed into his funeral. People swore they never witnessed such a well attended funeral before. But even with that huge sympathy, he never wished it for himself.

To a dad, "what do you wish for now?"
To a son or a daughter, "have you told him how much you care for him, with a hug?"
To the wife, "can you still pronounce this: "To have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, 'till death do us part..."?

And to everyone, the real question during Father's Day is this:
"What does your father really wish for YOU?  ....and what are you waiting for..?"
